“As I reflect on my deeply humbling experience meeting His Holiness Pope Francis at the #Vatican, and in light of the ongoing war in #Lebanon, I express my deep sorrow over the continued escalation of this devastating conflict, which has displaced millions and inflicted immense suffering on innocent people. We pray that world leaders will take a stand, demanding an immediate ceasefire to protect the countless innocent lives caught in a war that the Lebanese people do not want to be part of. Now more than ever, we need prayers, a ceasefire, and the start of negotiations for a lasting peace.”
Thomas A. Abraham, Chairman of the Anthony R. Abraham Foundation

Our Chairman, Thomas A. Abraham, shares his reflections on his pilgrimage to meet Pope Francis.

“When I reflect upon the profound significance of having the opportunity to meet one of the 266 Popes who have served since the time of Christ, I am deeply humbled. Standing in the great halls of the Vatican, in the presence of Pope Francis, I realized that this moment was truly blessed—an encounter with a living representative of Jesus Christ. The Roman Catholic Church, founded upon the faith that God's Son died on the Cross so we may enter the Kingdom of Heaven, holds its core in this meeting of faith and spirit.

In preparing for my pilgrimage to meet the Pope, my heart turned to my beloved homeland of Lebanon. I reflected on his deep love for Lebanon and the pain of its current suffering. With the fifth anniversary of the August 4th, 2020 explosion in my mind, I felt called to offer a gift that would capture both his attention and compassion. I created a visual tribute, a mural, honoring the souls who perished that tragic day. Accompanying it, I presented him with a scarf bearing the images of the victims, inscribed with the words "Justice Shall Be Served." These offerings symbolized a prayer for healing and justice, and I asked Pope Francis to pray for Lebanon, urging him to consider a visit to the country to speak with its leaders.

I told him that his presence in Lebanon could bring hope, urging an end to senseless conflict and becoming the light that might guide the country toward peace. As I spoke, Pope Francis listened intently, gazing at the mural and scarf with a look of deep sorrow. It was clear that the suffering of Lebanon weighed heavily on his heart, a country where Christ himself performed many miracles.

To my deep gratitude, the following day, Pope Francis made a public statement in support of Lebanon and arranged a meeting with the victims of the Beirut blast. I felt blessed that I had been granted the opportunity to meet with him, donning a jacket adorned with images of the fallen from the Beirut port explosion. In that sacred moment, I was able to witness his heartfelt response to the cries of Lebanon, and for that, I am deeply grateful.”
